Thought I'd Chime In

Look...

This TA thing doesn't scare me. It drives me nuts only because people "overdo" it.

I like Brawl because, well, that's the way I am.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not TotalA's biggest fan. But I used to play it for hours on end.

That's when the problems came. I rushed through schoolwork to play it. I skipped time outside just to launch a pixelated weapon at a non-existent rival.

I totally threw the rest of life away.

The same happened with Brawl. And it didn't hit me until I had logged almost three hours per DAY on it. And before this all started, before I even knew ThinAir, I was addicted to Battlefront II, logging five hours on it one time.

But now that I'm off TA and non-aerobic Wii games, I've started running, joined a basketball camp, and will learn to play guitar.

This is not criticism of video games. I still like 'em. But there's a darker side of them too. They suck you into a meaningless world of addiction and false happiness. These words do indeed sound very harsh. But they're true.

Sometimes, you've gotta put down the controller or get your fingers off of the keyboard, and then you will realize that there's more happiness in a real world than a virtual one.

  1. Nicely put RB! tis a true thing indeed, right now i say that i probably log three hours a day on a video console, but thankfully i spend an equal time outside or reading. of course when your like thinair and I and actually have plans of perhaps going into video game designing, well thats why i already have three games on sploder and only been a member for 24 hours. U hit the nail right on the head, and maybe if you spend more time outside u will over come that fear of bugs that u have!!!!!

  2. I completely agree guys. As thrilling or enjoyable digital worlds can be, God made the perfect world, and we have more access and involvement in that world than we could ever have in any fake one. So lets not throw away all our real time in GOD'S world for time in an imperfect MANMADE world. Video games are definitely a blessing, but anything that occupies TO MUCH of our life, other than God, becomes sinful. Unfortunately, most of my friends around the neighborhood don't come outside much anymore- they're hooked on some game called Red Dead Redemption. And, well, if you guys know me, I usually don't care for being alone. That's one reason I'm really looking forward our "camp" in Minacua. And probably the reason I only really like playing video games where I can face other players, actual people. I think this was an important thing to say RB, and you said it very well.

P.S. PH, what do u mean when you say "like thinair"?

  3. I have no desire to design video games and whatnot, but I want to play them! I beat SMG2 and have started playing Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 again, but I've been doing more outside, like running 3 miles. I, like PH, don't put down the controller permanently, but I bet you all that I could go without video games for three whole weeks.

And I would spend more time outside, but I don't have any 11, 12, or 13 year-old neighbors.

  4. Neither do i, and red dead redemtion is some First person shooter/blow your head off/blood everywhere/machine gun and shoulder fired nuke game. You know the type. Thats why i like RTS better. And Supreme commander 2's multi play actually works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unlike a certain unnamed game that begins with a "T" and ends with an "N". And don't tell me u forgot ben!?!?! or are u telling me that u were just getting my hopes up when we started talking about TA2? if u were then i'm going to cut your head of with a toothbrush, so theres your motivation.

  5. Woooooooooooooow.

But Paul, do you REALLY think that you are able to make TA2?! You'd have to buy Cavedog's company rights to the franchise, have years of game designing experience, a crew of professionals, hi-tech equipment, money with which you must pay the workers, and a big testing area. Not to mention the priceless object duct tape.

  6. oh it wouldn't be that bad! u see the rights to TA belong to infrogames at the moment and they haven't done anything with them since 1998 so buying them would be easy. Also, we might be able to get gas powered games sponsering us, u see, since chris taylor runs that company, and ta was his first big hit, we might be able to get onto gas powered games design team. also, programing is not that hard, it's getting the right designer platform that counts, also there are so many colleges offering design courses that it would be easy to find a place to get a degree in it. So it would be easier than u think!!!!

  7. No, PH, it's not that easy! You can't make it simpiler than it really is. You can't just assume that infrogames will give you the rights for cheap. Even if it was, it would still be a lot considering we're kids. We don't make a professional salary. Maybe infrogames is going to produce another hit game and will want their rights to TA's label. And do you think they would want to lose a chance at getting more profit? You also can't make the assumption that gas-powered games would sponsor you just because Chris Taylor made TA. He doesn't own the rights anymore, remember? And if you made a TA2, he would want those rights and fight for them, not help you. Finally, game designing isn't as easy as you think. Do you know how many years of experience it had to take for Chris Taylor to make TA? That's why they have whole college courses on it.

Give me the facts, man. We'll discuss it tonight.

  9. Yours Truelly, looking detached and bored: "I wonder how long they'll keep at it? The age old rivalry- even more so than France and England!- is revived... Speaking of France and England, maybe I should get Woody's mom over here with that yard stick..."
    Confused? Good =)
But I really do have to laugh when I see you guys locking horns every now and then...

  10. Grrrrrrrr...

No, BK, I totally know that you speaketh of the impeccable soccer rivalry betwixt the French and the English. Poor England, they were eventually beaten... Well, I'm off to my first guitar lesson in 1 hour and 10 mins, give or take...

So become one with the blogs and SEE MY NEWEST POST ON TOTAL RB!
